1. Agreement to Terms
By booking or using the services of The Toronto Movers ("Company," "we," "our," or "us"), you agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions. If you do not agree to these terms, please do not use our services.
These terms apply to all moving, relocation, junk removal, and related services provided by The Toronto Movers in Toronto and the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).
2. Services Provided
The Toronto Movers provides the following services:
- Residential Moving: Local and long-distance home moving services
- Commercial Moving: Office and business relocation services
- Storage Moving: Transportation to and from storage facilities
- Specialty Moving: Piano, pool table, and heavy appliance moving
- Junk Removal: Removal and disposal of unwanted items
- Packing Services: Professional packing and unpacking
3. Booking and Quotes
3.1 Estimates
All quotes provided are estimates based on the information you provide. Final charges may vary based on:
- Actual weight or volume of items moved
- Additional services requested on moving day
- Access difficulties (stairs, long carries, elevators)
- Items not disclosed during the quote process
3.2 Booking Confirmation
A booking is confirmed only after:
- Written or verbal confirmation from our team
- Receipt of any required deposit (if applicable)
- Mutual agreement on the date, time, and scope of services
3.3 Minimum Charges
All moves are subject to a minimum charge of 2 hours. Travel time to and from your location may be included in billable hours.
4. Customer Responsibilities
As the customer, you agree to:
- Provide accurate information about items to be moved, including size, quantity, and special handling requirements
- Disclose any hazardous materials, prohibited items, or items of extraordinary value
- Ensure clear access to both pickup and delivery locations
- Reserve elevators or obtain building permits if required
- Disconnect and prepare appliances for moving (defrost refrigerators, disconnect gas lines)
- Be present or have an authorized representative present during the move
- Secure or remove valuable items (jewelry, cash, important documents) for personal transport
5. Prohibited Items
The following items cannot be transported by The Toronto Movers:
- Hazardous materials (flammables, explosives, chemicals, propane tanks)
- Perishable food items
- Live plants and animals
- Illegal substances or contraband
- Firearms and ammunition (unless properly declared and secured)
- Items that pose a health or safety risk
We reserve the right to refuse transport of any item deemed unsafe or inappropriate.
6. Liability and Insurance
6.1 Basic Coverage
All moves include basic liability coverage at $0.60 per pound per article. This coverage is included at no additional charge.
6.2 Full Value Protection
Additional coverage options may be available upon request. Please inquire about full value protection before your move.
6.3 Exclusions
We are not liable for:
- Damage to items not properly packed or disclosed
- Pre-existing damage or normal wear and tear
- Damage caused by inherent defects in items
- Loss or damage due to acts of God, natural disasters, or circumstances beyond our control
- Items packed by the customer (owner-packed boxes)
- Electronics, unless original packaging is used
- Items of extraordinary value not declared in advance
6.4 Claims Process
All damage claims must be reported within 48 hours of delivery. Claims should be submitted in writing with photographic evidence to info@thetorontomovers.ca.
7. Payment Terms
7.1 Payment Methods
We accept the following payment methods:
- Cash
- E-Transfer (Interac)
- Credit/Debit Cards (may be subject to processing fees)
7.2 Payment Timing
Full payment is due upon completion of services unless otherwise agreed in writing. For long-distance or large-scale moves, a deposit may be required.
7.3 Additional Charges
Additional charges may apply for:
- Stairs (per flight)
- Long carries (over 75 feet from truck to door)
- Waiting time due to customer delays
- Storage or overnight holding of goods
- Assembly/disassembly of furniture
8. Cancellation and Rescheduling
8.1 Cancellation Policy
- Cancellations made more than 48 hours before the scheduled move: No charge
- Cancellations made 24-48 hours before: 50% of estimated cost or deposit forfeited
- Cancellations made less than 24 hours before: Full estimated cost or deposit forfeited
8.2 Rescheduling
Rescheduling is subject to availability. We will make reasonable efforts to accommodate schedule changes with at least 48 hours notice.
8.3 Weather and Unforeseen Circumstances
In cases of severe weather or unforeseen circumstances that make moving unsafe or impossible, we will work with you to reschedule at no additional charge.
9. Junk Removal Services
For junk removal services, additional terms apply:
- Items will be recycled, donated, or disposed of at our discretion
- Hazardous waste, chemicals, and certain electronics may require specialized disposal at additional cost
- Once items are loaded on our truck, ownership transfers to The Toronto Movers
- Pricing is based on volume (truck space) or weight, depending on the job
10. Property Access and Damage
We take great care to protect your property. However:
- Pre-existing damage to walls, floors, or doorways should be documented before the move
- We are not responsible for damage caused by moving items that cannot fit through standard doorways
- Floor protection will be used, but minor scuffs may occur on hardwood or delicate flooring
11. Dispute Resolution
Any disputes arising from these terms or our services shall be:
- First addressed through good-faith negotiation between parties
- If unresolved, submitted to mediation in Ontario, Canada
- Governed by the laws of Ontario and applicable Canadian federal laws
12. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, The Toronto Movers' total liability for any claim arising from our services shall not exceed the total amount paid for those services.
13. Changes to Terms
We reserve the right to modify these Terms and Conditions at any time. Changes will be effective upon posting to our website. Continued use of our services after changes constitutes acceptance of the new terms.
